Has anyone built a model of the Manley? If so, what kit and what scale. This is a project I have been meaning to tackle for some time and any help I can get would be appreciated.

I would also like to build a model of the Manley. Long ago there was a small plastic model kit of the Forrest Sherman that was available. It could be modified with a number change, etc. and become the Manley. However, I don't think even that one is available any more. If you could obtain a "lines drawing" of the Manley with specifications as to overall length, beam, hull contour, etc., then I think I could build my own wooden model from it. I don't know where to get the lines. Navy Dept.? Smithsonian Institute?

If you would like to get a model got to "Warplanes.com" or I can dig around and see if I can get the drawing for you. The model would museum quality but would have to be a custom and could be of several scales, one would have to be chosen. To build one from scratch to see samples, Im not sure but I did find the Forrest Sherman in there, to check it out got to "Modelwarships.com". Two models of the Forest Sherman class destroyer appear to be available at TotalNavy.com One is the old Revell kit(mentioned by John Kalabus) at $39.95 and the other is from Commander Series Models, Inc. in resin at $149.95. I vaguely remember something about the anchor arrangement on the Manley being unique among the Shermans (my ex disposed of my library and research materials so I can't confirm this). Though TotalNavy lists both models as being 1/350th scale, the Revell kit is "box scale" and slightly larger (16 inches versus 14 inches). I have not found any plans for the Manley, though years ago I managed to get the plans for the U.S.S. Panay (on which my father served) from the Naval Archives in D.C. If anyone can shed light on the anchor issue or has other thoughts on a source for plans, please chime in.
