Greetings shipmates, I want to tell you how much I enjoy what you are doing with this web stuff. I visit it often as well as other Tin Can sites. As I have no clue how this is done, I don't know if this is possible. Can we send actual pictures of the ship as well as shipmates and ports of call. I see them in other sites. I would love to see some of us as we were in the past... I am in touch with several shipmates from 1970--1973 and trying to get them involved, there are not many of US out there. Well, thanks for considering this suggestion... Wolf (Wolfford BM3 1970--1973) |

Ditto. I sent a CD to the Assoc. months ago with close to a hundred pictures, including the Manley's recomissioning ceremony, and general pics of the old girl at sea in the early 70's. There are also a couple of high speed pics of an ASROC launch and of a torpedo launch. A lot of work went into rounding up those photos and scanning them all to CD. I really would like to them on this site for all to enjoy.

I got the message re: pictures. I agree that it is a good idea to place pictures of the crew on the web site. But quite a few factors that deserve consideration come into play. If your "old" pictures are really old prints, it is unlikely that we can upload to display a quality image on the web site. The scanner that I have available is an outdated cheapie. Prints need to be converted to digital files. That can sometimes be done at a local retailer. Uploading can be a slow process on broadband and impractical on dial-up. Then there is the question of available memory space on the server that we lease.
Frankly, I would not release the website code to just anyone. There is a potential risk of abuse and I have a long-standing promise to our members that I will safeguard their personal information.
I assure you that when the website was created, all imaginable content was considered. The website does not come without limitations, costs, software requirements, and expertise.
I will work on the suggestion.

If I am not mistaken I sent a Photo of the Manley going under the Kiel canal bridge in 57 or 58 prior to the reunion. If any one wants it I can send it to them as an attachment via e-mail.

http://www.usshalsey.org/ Greetings Bill and Joe, this is just one of the sites I have visited. This site is filled with links to other sites. I have no idea how all of this is done, but I see that it can. Maybe it's a matter of money or what ever. I do want to thank you for the effort you are putting into this project. I have many pictures as I see other do too, so if this can be done, let me know what format the pics need to be in....Happy Veterens day to all of my shipmates...Wolf |

Bgowen, this is SWINE DOG(FTG2) If you need a better scanner post the cost on this website(under SCUTTLEBUTT )I don't mind ponying up some $ to help pay for a better scanner I checked CVS pharmacy on converting pictures to CD,and the Kodak scanner charges about $6.45 a picture(my negatives are 110 film for which they don't have a machine to read them ) quote: Originally posted by manleypres
