No reunion can be successful unless a number of people are quick to stand
up and volunteer to assist in the preparation and execution. It takes
work and more work and then much personal sacrifice.
Bill Gowan, our webmaster, but also the audio / visual guy who made the
opening presentation appear on the screen and never missed a mark
afterwards....
Dan Brewster who so eloquently delivers a great invocation and who tolled
the bell just right during the Two-Bell Ceremony...and who dedicated so many
hours in the operation of the ship's store...
Linda Brewster who was right there at his side at the ship's store taking
care of the book work....and who spent an afternoon with the reunion
registrations...
Carolyn and Diane Miller - sisters-in-law, not sisters - who have become
expert in handling the reunion registrations with aplomb, saintly patience,
and impressive professionalism...
Enough cannot be said for Joe and Ursula Bolden who operated the Saturn limo
back and forth to the airport again and again and again and again after the
hotel reneged on its promise to furnish complimentary shuttle service. It would
have been a long walk without them...
The expert control of the lighting
during the opening ceremonies was accomplished by Terry Martin and his able
assistant Joe Bolden...
My personal gratitude to Bob Graham who drove me all around town loading
his truck up with the beer, wine and other supplies for the hospitality
room. For a little guy, he knows how to get a lot done...
Elizabeth Kalabus who worked with undying energy to create the large
number of hand-made door prizes for our business meeting...
Sal Davi, Harold Kane, and Terry Martin who were so helpful as motor
coach monitors. They never lost a soul...
Joe Dupont, Jim Huffer, and Bill Wyatt who were responsible for a highly
successful room-a-nite raffle. The product of their labor is the
Association's big gain...
Jim Innis who spent so many unselfish hours
putting together the Flash opening ceremonies that were never seen...
Shirley Dennison who is a "boot" when it comes to Navy life and doings but
who has come to love all of the people and who just can't get enough
reunions...
I believe, more than any single individual, much of the
applause must go to the people...those who allow us to bring to them
our reunions...who themselves make a sizeable financial sacrifice
to attend our reunions...who feed us by going home and sitting
down to write and send to our mailbox the many kudos. It means a lot
to all of us - and it speaks of the legacy that is MANLEY.
Thank you for a job WELL DONE!
