Computer Deprived? Much of the Association’s work is done with the computer, and every now and then we need to remind our-selves that there are still those who have not yet entered the world of cy-berspace. We want to keep you in-formed and you are on our mailing list! Those without computers can find one at the local library. You can access the Manley web site by point-ing the Internet browser to http://ussmanleydd940.org. If you don’t know how, ask! The librarian will be more than happy to demon-strate for you and it is easier than you think! Page 2 Reach Out And Feel The Pride Manley Notes
Spelling was never one of his

Confused at times with the web ad-
dress?  Is it .org or .com?  Forget to
insert http or www?  No problem.  Ac-
cess to the web site is now possible by
using either .org or ,com and the pre-
fixes are not necessary.
The Association officers remain dedi-
cated to improving service to you.

Notes at the current issue link in the
left margin of the web page.
In the unlikely event that you experi-
ence difficulty, you only need to e-mail
the editor at pres@ussmanleydd940.org,
or give us a shout on the phone.
Any service interruption is unaccept-
able to both you and the editor, but the
newsletter editor cannot verify delivery.
After two e-newsletter issues in 2006,
a survey was conducted to measure
reaction and acceptance.  Of 407
e-mail inquiries, only 81 were returned.
The interpretation is that 80% did not
care enough to respond to the survey
or failed to receive the survey.  And, if
they did not receive the survey, did they
receive the two e-newsletters?  The
question remains unanswered.
Consequently, this issue has found it
way into your mailbox instead of your
inbox,  If you possess an e-mail ad-
dress and have received this issue by
regular mail, let us know your willing-
ness to accept the e-newsletter by e-
mail to pres@ussmanleydd940.org.
Your cooperation is needed and greatly
appreciated.  The USS Manley
Association is one of the most success-
ful decommissioned ship organization
existing and we want to keep it that
way.  Success, though, is a team effort
-- let’s get another “E.”

E-Newsletter
Your Association leaders continue
with their plan to bring you the most
practical and secure methods of com-
munication -- the newsletter, e-mail
and the web site.  Your acceptance
has been inspiring and the root of our
successes.
The preferred distribution method for
Manley Notes is via the Internet, an
electronic newsletter, or e-newsletter
for one reason: it is substantially cost-
effective.  Paper, ink, and postage are
eliminated.  The dollars saved can
keep dues down and put to better
use.
No one is going to be erased from the
list though.  All of you without e-mail
addresses and those who have opted
out of e-delivery will continue to
receive their issues of Manley Notes
by regular mail.
Mastering the technique of e-delivery
brought a few hiccups in early efforts
and is thought to have been spotty
with the third and fourth quarter is-
sues in 2006.  Here’s how it will work
with future issues...
The e-newsletter will be distributed by
e-mail in a format (HTML) including
graphics.  Some e-mail or security
configurations prevent viewing or
receiving embedded graphics.  The
e-newsletter will be preceded with a
message and link to target the web
page.  If you are unable to view the
e-newsletter, simply click on the link
and you will automatically be trans-
ported to the web page.  Or as an
alternative, after receiving the
e-newsletter you can go directly to the
web site at any time to open Manley
meaning of “camaraderie.”  It is     un-
deniably a gathering of shipmates and
friends celebrating themselves and
each other.  Steadfastly, the people
return time after time because they
discover a depth of uncommon satis-
faction that stems from their service
years.
The gala welcome breakfast on Friday
is much, much more than a ham ’n
eggs special.  This show will get your
heart pounding and you will quickly
realize that you have arrived!
And as your reunion experience grows
so too will your pride.  Surely, you are
aware of the Association’s slogan:
Reach Out And Feel The Pride.  It was
no accident or frivolous idea.  Adopted
in 2000 along with the logo, the foun-
ders were determined from the mo-
ment of inception that fostering pride
among our membership would be the
creed on which this organization would
be built.
Hopefully, that will become abundantly
clear to you as you arrive in Norfolk.
You will not be disappointed.  And as
you prepare to make the trip home on
Monday morning, you will raise your
head just a bit higher.  Boatswain’s
Mate or BT, seaman or lieutenant, your
heart will be overflowing with a strange
feeling and you will find yourself pump-
ing the hand, or even embracing, a
shipmate you never knew existed four
days earlier.  It’s camaraderie
