Volume 9, Number 1
USS MANLEY (DD-940) ASSOCIATION
January 1, 2007
You, The Web, And Manley
With the stealth of a thief in the night,
the Manley Association successfully
moved its web homeport to a new
provider with more steam and speed.
The Association webmaster, Bill
Gowan, worked tirelessly transporting
code from old to new with a skill that
minimized any down time to our
members.  Immediate changes may
be imperceptible to the casual web
surfer.
This move, though, will be apparent
to many of you in weeks and months
coming as Gowan introduces scores
of new capabilities in the program.
Already, there has been a transforma-
tion in the distribution of the quarterly
newsletter, and we will continue to
improve that service with time.  See
E-Newsletter on page three.
Remodeling the ship’s store is on our
priority list.  Because of money limita-
tion, it is impractical to maintain a
large multi-product inventory.  Yet, we
desire to meet a demand for more
than tee shirts and ball caps.  A
agreement with the manufacturer
that permits direct online purchasing
and keeps the Association in the loop
will expand the product-line without
the burden of a impossible inventory.
E-mail accounts and mailboxes at the
Manley web site will become a reality
in the near future.  More on that will
be included in a later issue.
Allowing the upload of digital photo-
graphs was prohibitive in the past
due to restrictive memory.  That is
resolved and now on the short list of
“things to do.”

A Journey To Norfolk Brings Camaraderie
The date: January 1, 2007; only 109
days left to the opening of the

April 19, 2007, the largest contingent
of former Manley sailors will gather at
the Norfolk Airport Hilton hotel for
four days of friendship.
Each activity and event has been me-
ticulously orchestrated to assure the
maximum enjoyment of every individ-
ual attendee. Pre-reunion packages
will be mailed in February that will
include a calendar of tours and
events, driving instructions, and
maps.  Name tags, ditty bags, and
more information will be available at
the reunion registration desk on
Thursday, April 19 in the reception
area.
Even the hotel has gotten into the
spirit.  The wraps will come off a four
million dollar renovation just as the
Manley sailors arrive.  The sleeping
rooms have been completely up-
dated; the restaurant re-opened after
an extensive overhaul; the lounge is

To savor the flavor of a Manley reun-

for all of it, from Thursday to Monday.
Much is lost in shortcutting yourself.
The reunion officially gets started on
Thursday evening with opening cere-

groups.  The opening sets the tone for
the gathering and defines the true
