Welcome to the USS Manley (DD-940) Association, home of the Navy's once finest crew and intrepid combatant destroyer. Here you will find a single source for her history, related news, sea stories, and the men who served with pride during her commissioned years from 1957 until 1983. This site and the Association are dedicated to placing former Manley crew members in touch with other shipmates through the use of the Internet, E-mail, a quarterly newsletter, and reunions. Unfortunately, no assistance is received from the Department of the Navy or does the Department support this site or the Association in any way. The officers of the Association must rely upon their wits, their imagination, and you. You, after all, are the purpose of our existence and the primary source of support. If you found your way to this site as a result of an email sent you because you are listed elsewhere, or you were casually browsing the net and are here by accident, we welcome and invite you to take a look at the many pages that make up ussmanleydd940.org. If you have previously "enlisted" prior to the renovation of the site that was completed on February 8, 2004, you may have to register again at the Forums page to create your user name and password. At the left of this and all pages, you will see links that lead you to the various pages and even other sites of common interest. Just click on the porthole and you will sail smoothly to that destination. Feel free to navigate as much as you wish. Take a trip to the Roster and you will discover the names of nearly 1,000 Manley sailors who have joined our sailing list. Surely, you will recognize one or two or more. Go to the Ship's Store and you will find several items of Manley memorabilia for sale, all of first class quality. When at the Roster, notice that only the member's name, rank or rate at time of detachment, and the years of service on board are displayed. No other personal information may be available to you at this time because we safeguard the privacy of All Hands and that is by intent, not accident. Some pages of this site have limited access and you may not be allowed to access them. Only active current members of the Association have access to the Business Meeting page, the Photo Album, and email addresses of other members. You may use the Forums to post a message, tell a story - a short one, of course - or even attempt to locate someone. There is a full range of features available to you but first you are asked to sign on and create a unique user name and password. It is simple. Point your cursor at "Register" and click, fill in the form, submit it and you are on your way to the cruise of a lifetime. Soon after you submit the completed form, you will receive a personal message from the president explaining in more detail the history and objectives of the organization, and the procedures necessary to gain full access to the web site, including the protected pages. Besides this web site, the Association publishes a newsletter, Manley Notes, conducts reunions, and issues special announcements by email as the need arises. Since its inception, the Association has grown to a crew of nearly 1,000 strong. You are encouraged to add your name today and be sure to include your mailing address so that you can receive the latest issue of Manley Notes. There is no other obligation. Thank you.
